MARGAO: With the Green Goa Works abandoning maintenance of the SGPDA market, the PDA has decided to hold discussion with the vendors to impress upon them to pay the charges for the upkeep of the market.
The issue over GGW’s decision to discontinue maintenance work at the market figured prominently at today’s SGPDA meeting. After the meeting, SGPDA Chairman Rajan Naik told the media that he would call the leaders of the vendors and impress upon them the need for the maintenance of the fish, retail and vegetable market. “GGW has abandoned the maintenance work because the vendors have not been paying the maintenance fees. If the current situation is allowed to continue, a day will come when the authorities will intervene and shut the market on health grounds. The market will not attract customers if there’s no maintenance”, Rajan said, adding that the situation will only tarnish the image of the mega market.
GGW had discontinued the maintenance work after the vendors had stopped payment of maintenance charges. The vendors, however, said that they have stopped payment of the maintenance fees in protest against the SGPDA delay in respect of the prayer room and the poor maintenance work by the agency.
