Panchawadkar along with the demolition team demolished a shack and 20 other cottages in the property of a resort at Varca. With this demolition, Salcete has become the first taluka to achieve 100 per cent compliance to the GCZMA order.
The Deputy Collector has also taken a dig at the Tourism Department for keeping the local administration in dark for holding beach events.
“The complainants – Aleixo Pereira are abusing local administration while we are kept in the dark regarding the organisation of the events at the beaches. The Tourism Department is not marking any of the copies to the local administration,” Ajit Panchawadkar charged.
“The Tourism Department gives single window permissions to events and if we are not marked in the permissions then we are unable to provide support. The Tourism Department doesn’t inform us and Aleixo Pereira calls in the middle of the night and abuses the local administrators. It is best he bothers the Tourism Department with his complaints and not us,” Panchwadkar added.
Meanwhile, the old dilapidated Drishti lifeguards shelter at Colva beach, which has been an eyesore for years was also removed by the SDM last week. Herald had raised the issue of the old structure which had remained unattended for years.
