VAGATOR: A shack and a garment store were totally gutted in a major fire that occurred near Club 9Bar Ozran at small Vagator Beach on Tuesday morning. The loss is estimated to be around Rs 19 lakh. However no injuries were reported.
According to the Mapusa Fire Station personnel, they received the information on the incident at 3.40 am. The fire personnel from Mapusa Fire station rushed to the site and started their operation on reaching they noticed that 90% of the shack and garment store was totally gutted.
The fire personnel had to walk a distance of half a km to reach the spot as the path leading to the shack at the beach was very narrow and the fire tender could not pass through. The locals used tap water and other source of water available to put off the fire.
The items gutted in the incident include two refrigerators, a deep freezer, two small fridges, cooking units, sound system, table and chairs. A cylinder blasted in the fire however the fire personnel managed to remove the other three from the kitchen. Shack owner Sharmila Matkar suffered a loss of Rs 15 lakh.
While the garment and cloth shop owner, Prakash Rathod also suffered a loss of Rs 4 lakh.
The fire department has asked them to furnish details of items lost in the fire.
Leading fire fighter Pramod Mahale, driver Devendra Naik and firefighters Prakash Ghadi Nitin Mayekar, Sagar Kunklekar, Dilip Sawant were part of the operation.
