PANJIM: All Goa Shack Owners’ Welfare Society (SOWS) President Cruz Cardozo on Wednesday confirmed that shack licenses would be given to owners by Tourism Department and Goa State Coastal Zone Management (GCZMA) this week.
“The demarcation process is over and some shacks and other facilities have already been erected, and an inspection has been carried out by the authorities. By this weekend shack owners can expect to get the licence. Earlier we had been issued in-principle licenses,” said Cardozo
“Most of the shacks have already resumed operations in various coastal belts and it is a relief for them,” he said.
“Only shacks on Palolem beach have not been permitted by GCZMA due to CRZ violations and hence no allotment process was done in that place. Most probably we will be handing over a memorandum to the chief minister to consider shacks in that area,” he said.Stating that two and half months of the tourism season have passed and shack owners have suffered losses, as each of them has lost approximately around Rs 2,50,000 in the past two months, he said the association has sent a notice to the department to provide compensation to the shack owners who have lost business.
