Shack operation deadline likely to be extended: Min

PANJIM: Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte on Saturday said that shack operation deadline may be extended subject to weather conditions.

Speaking to reporters, he said. “As far as department of tourism is concerned, by Monday, June 3, we will take the decision by consulting India Meteorological Department (IMD) and other departments. But in principle, we will not disturb the activities, subject to the weather conditions.”

Speaking on the deaths due to drowning in abandoned quarries and other dangerous spots across the State, Khaunte said, “Tourists should behave responsibly. Everyone has to be responsible for himself. After few incidents, we have issued a circular to all the people and tourists and also we will post it on department of tourism website about the safe spots.”

“After Chief Minister’s intervention, some departments have also asked the quarry owners to fence the areas. You cannot hold government responsible for everything. Loss of life is a big loss. We appeal to youth to go to the safe spots and enjoy responsibly,” he said.
