Shack owners asked to assess losses

Margao: All Goa Shack Owners Welfare Society has decided to assess the losses caused to the Shacks all over Goa in the Cyclone Okchi. The Shack Owners have been urged to get in touch with the Welfare Society so that the losses can be compiled. The Society will then take the assessment to the Government and will demand compensation.
The President of the Shack Owners Welfare Society Cruz Cardozo informed that they will compile proper data and will then officially go to the Tourism Department for demanding compensation. The society will soon hold a meeting of all the Shack owners to decide the course of action. The President  has urged the Shack owners to get in touch with the society.
Cruz said that the Society won’t consider the pleas or render help to the Shacks that have been sublet to non-Goans and outsiders as they believe that Shack business is one of the oldest businesses inherent to Goans. “We are here to protect interests of Goans and shack business has been in Goa when there were no hotels which makes it unique to Goa,” said Cruz.
Reassuring all the affected Shack owners, Cruz said that all the Shacks which have been partially or fully demolished in the natural calamity will be repaired with or without the help of tourism department or government.
Angered with the statement of the President of Travel and Tourism Association of Goa, Savio Messais  claiming that the shacks have been placed in wrong positions in Goa. “What has this President done for the betterment of the shack owners till date and who gives him the right to comment on the shacks?”, asked Cruz. Cruz further said that there is a case against the TTAG president and that he has no right to comment on the shacks of Goa.
