Shack Owners’ Welfare Society Demands Reimbursement of Fees

Cruz Cardozo, the President of the Shack Owners’ Welfare Society, asserted that there was a substantial drop in tourism within South Goa for the first time in 30 years. Cardozo emphasized that the delay in shack allotment significantly impacts their operations.

“This is the first time in 30 years no tourists have come to Goa, it seems as though the season has ended. Some shack owners cannot handle the expenses or pay salaries because there is no income coming in and they are thinking of shutting down the business,” said Cardozo.

They demanded that the government reimburse fees for September, October, and November, given that shacks were allotted in December. If their issues are not resolved they will meet the Tourism Minister and the Chief Minister seeking resolution and support for their plight.

“We paid the fees from Sept to May, but we didn’t get permission from Sept to November, hence the government needs to give us a refund,” he said.
