Earlier, President John Fernandes offered to resign due to his health problems, but the block members refused to accept his resignation stating that he has done yeomen services for the party and appointed Shaikh as working president in the presence of Curtorim MLA Alex Regionaldo Lourenco.
On the occasion, Regionaldo said that many leaders who had deserted party earlier are seen sitting on the first row on dais during the meetings and spreading false rumours that he was leaving Congress and joining other political party.
“I am loyal worker of Congress party,” he said urged the party men to bring Congress back to power.
