PANJIM: Former MP Shantaram Naik will continue to hold the post of Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) chief for the present.
Indian National Congress (INC) President Rahul Gandhi, in a communication to all State Pradesh Congress Committees, said that presidents of the State committees will continue in the posts even after the organisational election unless a decision is taken to replace them.
“Congress President Rahul Gandhi has taken a decision that the presidents of all Pradesh Congress Committees, regional Congress committees and territorial Congress committees will continue in their posts after the organisational election also unless some decision in taken to replace them,” INC General Secretary Janardan Dwivedi said in the release issued on Saturday evening.
Naik, was appointed as GPCC president as a temporary arrangement in July 2017, following the resignation of Luizinho Faleiro. In September, last year, Congress conducted its organisational elections, which included the executive, district and block committees.
Naik is making attempts to retain the position. All India Congress Committee (AICC) Secretary Girish Chodankar, GPCC general secretary Yatish Naik, MLA Ravi Naik, vice president MK Shaikh and former MP Francisco Sardinha are also in the race for the top Congress post.
