Shantaram’s wife is Goa Mahila Cong president

PANJIM: Congress leader Beena Shantaram Naik has been officially given the charge to head the Goa Pradesh Mahila Congress. Naik was leading the women’s wing of the Congress Party after its president Pratima Coutinho resigned to join the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

A press statement by All India Congress Committee’s leader K C Venugopal states, “Congress President has approved the proposal of the appointment of Beena Shantaram Naik as the president of Goa Pradesh Mahila Congress with immediate effect.”

Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Girish Chodankar later took to the social media wishing Naik on the appointment. “Congratulations @beenanaik123 for being appointed as GoaPradeshMahilaCongress @GoaPMC President after successfully working as acting president. U (You) have been instrumental in attracting large number of women towards @INCIndia ideology through your organizational spirit & dedication,” he posted. 

Meanwhile, social activist from Pernem Advocate Jeetendra Gaonkar joined the Congress on Sunday. Now a former Goa Forward Party leader, Gaonkar’s move is ironically around six months after being declared as GFP candidate from Pernem.
