MARGAO: Vice-Chairman of National Confederation of Human Rights Organisations (NCHRO) Adv K P Mohammed Shareef, has said that new laws are being enacted, such as the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) even though Article 13 of the Constitution says that no law against fundamental rights should be formed or implemented.
“Under UAPA, just a doubt of an unlawful activity is enough for a Police Inspector to arrest a person without any permission/warrant from the court,” he said, while addressing a gathering of lawyers, doctors, engineers, professors and other activists from Goa,
He said, “Many times laws are implemented to suppress our own people, be it TADA, POTA or the recent one UAPA. These laws are made to safeguard the upper class, super rich industrialist, and the imperialist powers and to also suppress the minorities, Adivasis, Dalits and others. He added that citizens have to be vigilant and defeat such laws from been formed and get them repealed.

Dr. Zakir Ali Ansari spoke about the ‘Drocanian Laws’ and wanted to know how to get them repealed. Anthony D’Silva spoke on Article 141 and how Law enforcing authorities are misusing it.
All the people present spoke their hearts out and advocated a need for formation of NCHRO Chapter in Goa, which was unanimously agreed to by all. It was decided to form an ad-hoc committee for Goa under the Leadership of Joseph L. R. Vaz as President. Other Executive Committee members are as follows: Abdul Matin Carol-Vice President, Prof. Joane Rebello- 2nd Vice President, Ronny Dias – General Secretary, Sayed Iftiyaz – Jt. Secretary and Ramnath Naik-Treasurer, Dr. Zakir Ali Ansari, Abdul Wahab, Cliffton de Souza, Sayed Abdul Aziz, Seby Rodrigues, Shaikh Abdul Rauf, Zia Rikarty, Zabir Ahmed, Shaikh Mohammed, Anthony D’Silva and Mohammed Imran as members.
