Shel-Melauli locals to re-start agitation from Monday

VALPOI: Villagers of Shel-Melauli area will restart their agitation from Monday to fight for their demand after a four-day strike last week.

Meanwhile, Apoorva Chari, sarpanch of Guleli Panchayat, has tendered her resignation four days ago.

It is learnt that a large scale agitation was organised against the IIT project to be set up at Shel-Melauli. The government had filed criminal cases against 40 protesters who have demanded immediate withdrawal of the charges and reclamation of the land in the name of IIT.

It was also demanded that detailed information be made available in the Panchayat office. However, the demand has not been met yet.

The agitation was immediately postponed due to two days off on Saturday and Sunday. The agitation will be resumed from Monday, the villagers said.

The agitation will continue till the villagers get the required information and the government withdraws the criminal charges against them, sources said.

According to the information received, Sarpanch of Guleli Panchayat Apoorva Chari has submitted his resignation to the Panchayat Directorate. It is learned that a copy of this reference has been submitted to the block development officer of Sattari taluka.

Meanwhile, when Apoorva Chari had insisted that she had not resigned these past four days. However, official information has come to light that she has actually resigned.

Another important point is that due to the aggression of the Shel Melauli agitation, except for Arjun Melekar, the only Panchayat member, no other Panch member has set foot in the Panchayat office since last week.

It is learned that due to the resignation of the Sarpanch, the administrative affairs have come to a standstill. At present, a large number of jobs are being recruited in the health department. Eligible candidates are rushing to get the required documents. However, it is learnt that many problems have arisen due to the stalemate in the administration of the panchayat. It has been warned that the Panch members will not be allowed to come to the Panchayat office till the required demands are met.
