A resident of Siolim,  Adv Deelip Yeshwant Govenkar has complained to the State  Pollution Control board regarding vanishing of clams (Khube) from the Chapora River at Oxel, Guddem and Dande (Bhailo Hudo), village of Siolim.
He mentioned that the Chapora River which was rich for shell plucking for more than 100 years has stopped for the past four years due to the release of some chemicals from the factories in the water of the Chapora River which might be the cause and reason for vanishing of the shells / species / khube from the river.
That, he said, has affected the livelihood of people as many families of fishermen were dependent on clam fishing as a source of revenue. He also referred to complaints regarding disappearance of shells (Khube) from the River Tirakhol at Querim in Pernem.
