PANJIM: Booked for allegedly conspiring the murder of an RTI activist; businessman Shailesh Shetty will walk of jail nearly seven months after his arrest in the case.

The High Court released Shetty on conditional bail and asked him submit personal bond of Rs 50,000, to attend trial proceedings, not to tamper with evidence and not to influence witnesses besides other conditions.

After being denied bail in the Mapusa court, Shetty approached the High Court.

It may be recalled that the Porvorim Police had recently filed a charge sheet against him and six others under Sections 302 (murder) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC, for their alleged involvement in the death of activist Vilas Methar.

Shetty’s name in the case emerged as a car registered in his name was seized from the possession of accused Prashant Dabholkar and Pavan Badiger, who had escaped after allegedly setting the victim on fire at Torda on October 14, 2020. The victim had died of serious burn injuries. Shetty claimed that he had sold his car to Dabholkar but could not produce the documents.

Shetty was earlier also booked for allegedly co-hosting a rave party at Vagator which was busted by Crime Branch.
