PANJIM: Panjim MLA Atanasio Monserrate and Corporation of The City of Panjim Mayor Uday Madkaikar have urged the district administration to shift the planned quarantine centres for COVID-19 out of the city.
In the morning, Monserrate met Collector R Menaka, who he said had agreed to the request.
“As per the appeal from the citizens of Panjim I had a meeting with the North Goa Collector R Menaka and requested her to shift the planned quarantine centres from the city. The same has been agreed by her,” Monserrate said.
CCP Mayor informed media persons that the quarantine centres will not be allowed in residential areas of Panjim. “We are told the quarantine centres are for factory workers at Verna and Farmagudi. So let them be quarantined somewhere nearby there,” he said.
He said the Panjim MLA also met Collector not to give the hotel for quarantine in residential area and she has agreed. “I appeal to the Collector to consult us and MLA in future before taking any such decision,” he said.
He said quarantine in Ginger Hotel was allowed as there was fool-proof security and it should be like that. “But at some places we have seen there is no control and those quarantined are moving around as if they have come on holidays,” he said.
