The decision to hold the 2017 Carnival parade out of main city will ease traffic problems witnessed in Panjim in the past years.
Tourism Director Sanjeev Gauns said the proposal has been sent to Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) and Corporation City of Panaji (CCP) to consider using the Miramar to Dona Paula road for the parade route.
While GSIDC Managing Director Sanjit Rodrigues said he has not received any such proposal, CCP Commissioner Dipak Desai appreciated the proposal and confirmed it has reached his office and will be placed before the council at its next meeting. “It is very good decision and CCP will give permission to hold the carnival parade there instead of in Panjim city,” Desai said.
Shifting of the venue will primarily help reduce traffic snarls in the city during the parade time. Desai said the floats can enter the parade venue and exit via Bambolim without disturbing the Panjim traffic.
During the parade time the old internal road through Caranzalem can be used and traffic coming from Bambolim can be diverted through Taleigao to Panjim, an officer from the Traffic Department said.
However the finalization of the decision depends upon the permission of GSIDC and CCP.
