Shifting of Hospicio to SGDH leads to traffic chaos

MARGAO: The recently shifted Hospicio at the new South Goa District Hospital is now facing hard times due to lack of proper traffic management, as the vehicles are seen parked on the road and in a hazardous manner.

Even the people are complaining about the parking issue at the hospital.

Herald visited the hospital after receiving many phone calls from the citizens urging to highlight the issue. A visit at the SGDH hospital confirmed the ground reality.

It was noticed that the people are forced to park their vehicles outside the compound of the hospital, as no one is allowed to take their bikes and four wheelers inside the complex.

It may be recalled that upon the urging of the public, Hospicio has been shifted to the SGDH recently, and people are noticed making a rush, as the functioning of OPDs began a few days back.

The haphazard parking of vehicles and auto rickshaws indirectly poses a threat to the vehicles moving from KTC Bus Stand Margao to the Nuvem-Arlem junction.

However, it has left a parking problem as the traffic management plan is yet to be implemented. As a result, people are even noticed parking their vehicles on the highway in dangerous conditions, and which may result in accidents.

Speaking to the media, Santu Gaonkar, from Quepem who had visited the District hospital said the security of the traffic police is seen at the site to manage the traffic movement.

“Vehicles are not allowed inside the hospital complex, and hence several vehicles are seen parked in an improper manner. Traffic cell should have monitored the traffic movement at the hospital,” he suggested.

It was also noticed that the area outside the district hospital is not even cleaned and levelled in order to facilitate the parking of vehicles.

“It is natural that being a District hospital the flow of vehicles will be increased in the coming days. And hence, taking note of the parking problem it is necessary to put in place the proper traffic management at the hospital. The concerned authority should not force the people to park their vehicles on the roads which will be dangerous to the traffic movement on the highway,” said Anthony D’Cunha from Chandor.

In view of the commissioning of the SGDH, GOACAN in a letter to than district Collector Ajit Roy had already highlighted the need for an action plan to resolve the road safety and traffic management issues that have emerged early also.
