CANACONA: With the hoisting of Shigmo parade at Charasta in Canacona on Friday, curtains came down on the state government supported public Shigmo parades for this year.
As the model code of conduct is in force, no political leader was able to get associated with shigmo floats parade in Canacona taluka as in other towns of Goa this year.
This year’s Shigmo parade was held on the newly built (not commissioned yet) NH66 4 lane road of the bypass link at Charasta and not the usual route from Charasta to Chaudi bringing relief to the heavy traffic rush on this road due to diversion of all types of traffic plying through Anmod Ghat via Canacona.
About 40 groups consisting of traditional folk and street dancers and elaborately built floats depicting scenes from mythology and religious scenes displayed their works as they enthralled the enthusiastic crowd consisting of spectators from all age groups.
Also seen in audience were foreigners who got the taste of the Goan culture and its traditions.In the absence of political leaders, this year’s float was held under the chairmanship of Sagun Velip, chief officer of Canacona Municipal Council.
