PONDA: The annual Shigmo parade in Ponda organised by Goa Tourism Development Corporation in association with the Antruz Mahal Shigmostav Samithi will be held on March 21.
Addressing media persons, Samithi President and PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar, who is also elected as the President of Shigmostav Committee, said Governor Mridula Sinha would attend the event.
PMC Chairman Pradeep Naik, his Deputy Vishwanath Dalvi, Chief Officer Navanath Naik, Councillor Geetali Talavlikar, and Ajit Kerkar were present for the press briefing.
Dhavalikar said that if the code of conduct for by-polls and LS polls comes into force before the float parade, then the Committee will be headed by PWD chief engineer Vijay Verenkar.
He said during this festival former chief minister and Ponda MLA Ravi Naik along with some members would be felicitated for starting Shigmo in Goa and added that senior Shigmo artistes from the taluka will also be felicitated.
Various cultural programmes have been organised from March 19 to 22 which will conclude with prize distribution. A prayer to Goddess Mahalsa will also be held at Mardol temple.
The parade, which will be flagged off on March 21 at Tisk, Ponda at 5 pm by the Governor, will culminate at Old Bus Stand, Ponda.
Besides Government allotting the prize money for the winners, the Samithi will also contribute via donations.
The prizes in the float category are Rs 85,000, Rs 65,000, Rs 50,000, Rs 42,000, and Rs 38,000 besides consolation prizes will also be awarded.
In the Romtamel category, the prizes are Rs 55,000, Rs 40,000, Rs 25,000, Rs 15,000, and Rs 10,000 besides consolation prizes will also be given.
In the folk dance category, Rs 35,000, Rs 25,000, Rs 15,000 and consolation prizes will be awarded. There will be prizes for fancy dress contest for seniors and juniors.
