Shigmotsav at Mandrem on 2 April; Samiti organizes various cultural events

The Mandrem Shigmotsav Samiti has organized a variety of competitions and events for the upcoming Shigmotsav festival on April 2, 2024. The festival is celebrated in the state of Goa and is known for its vibrant floats parade and cultural performances.

The Samiti has planned a felicitation program to honor individuals working in the fields of social welfare, theatre, and music. This program will take place at 4 pm, and volunteers and artists from these sectors will be recognized for their contributions.

Following the felicitation program, the floats parade will commence at 6 pm in Morjim. This parade is a highlight of the Shigmotsav festival and showcases elaborate and creatively designed floats. The floats competition will offer cash prizes of 1 lakh rupees for the first place, 80,000 rupees for the second place, 50,000 rupees for the third place, 30,000 rupees for the fourth place, and 20,000 rupees for the fifth place. 

In addition to the float’s competition, there will also be a Romatamel competition. The first-place winner will receive 1 lakh rupees, the second-place winner will receive 80,000 rupees, the third-place winner will receive 50,000 rupees, the fourth-place winner will receive 30,000 rupees, and the fifth-place winner will receive 20,000 rupees. Romatamel is a traditional Goan sport that involves climbing a greased pole.

The samiti has also organized a folk dance competition, with cash prizes of 30,000 rupees for the first place, 25,000 rupees for the second place, 20,000 rupees for the third place, 15,000 rupees for the fourth place, and 10,000 rupees for the fifth place. Goa is known for its rich culture and vibrant folk dances, so this competition is sure to showcase the talent of the participants.

Furthermore, there will be an all-Goa fancy dress competition, with a first prize of 20,000 rupees, a second prize of 15,000 rupees, a third prize of 12,000 rupees, a fourth prize of 8,000 rupees, and a fifth prize of 5,000 rupees. This competition allows participants to exhibit their creativity and imagination through their costumes.

There will also be a fancy dress competition specifically for the Pernem taluka in the junior category. The first-place winner will receive 10 rupees, the second-place winner will receive 8 rupees, the third-place winner will receive 5 rupees, the fourth-place winner will receive 3 rupees, and the fifth-place winner will receive 2 rupees.

The Mandrem Shigmotsav Samiti is keen on attracting participants and attendees from both Pernem taluka and all over Goa. The committee invites everyone to be a part of this festive celebration, which promises to be a delight for the senses and a celebration of Goan culture
