BICHOLIM: The Shigmotsav festivities in two temples from Bicholim Taluka have been cancelled since Saturday.
One of the temple includes Mahamaya Kalika Temple, Kasarpal in which the Shishirotsav festivities started since Wednesday, March 18, have been cancelled in view of Coronavirus.
Devasthan Samiti President Rajendra Verlekar in an appeal has stated that the festivities have been banned for people from March 21 till 27. However, he said, the rituals will be performed by hosts with the Brahmin priests.
Similarly, Shantadurga Temple at Gaonkarwada has also cancelled the Shigmotsav festivities including dramas and Dhulwad in view of COVID-19. Devasthan President Rajaram Gaonkar said internal religious rituals will be performed only by a temple priest.
Meanwhile, the century-old Gudi Padwa celebration in town has been cancelled in view of COVID-19.
Bicholim Gudi Padwa Celebration Committee President Narayan Betkikar and members Ramchandra Pal, Samir Vaigankar and Rasika Tulpule informed that the procession and public meeting programme has been cancelled to support the government in view of COVID-19 precautionary measures and also since Section 144 has been imposed.
The members have called upon the people to take the note of the same.
