Shigmotsav festival from March 25

PANJIM: The Shigmotsav celebrations will be held next month, a day after Holi from March 25 to April 7. The government-appointed committee has listed the dates for holding float parades on mythological scenes in different towns in the State.

Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar said they expect a large number of tourists for the festival. “We expect a huge footfall of tourists during the Shigmo festival, just as we had an impressive record of number of visitors for Carnival,” he said.
Besides the floats, several artistes and theatre and film actors from neighbouring Maharashtra are likely to join Goan traditional dance troupes. The government has been supporting the event financially and promoting it as a tourist attraction to attract visitors from across the globe.
