Shigmotsav festival starts in Goa from March 26

PANJIM: The annual celebration of the Shigmotsav festival is scheduled to take place across the State from March 26 to April 8.

The festivals float parades will commence from Ponda, and will be held at Calangutea, Sankhali, Valpoi, Porvorim, Bicholim, Pernem, Canacona, Vasco, Shiroda, Curchorem, Quepem, Dharbandora, Margao, Mapusa, Sanguem, and Cuncolim respectively.

Each place where the Shigmotsav parade takes its route brings forth its unique customs and traditions associated with the festival. The floats parades will also consist of romtamel, traditional dance like ghodemodni, dhangar dance, goff and Morulo. The beautifully lit floats were based on mythological scenes inspired from the Ramayana and Mahabharata with recreation of victorious fights of the Gods against demons accentuated by light and sound effects.

The Shigmotsav float parade will be a visual spectacle, with participants dressed in traditional costumes and adorned with elaborate jewellery by holding huge coloured flags, and various cultural elements. The beats of the dhols (Goan instrument) will add an electrifying atmosphere, creating a sense of excitement and joy. Every element of Shigmotsav offers a glimpse into the life and traditions of Goans and also allows tourists to interact with locals, witness rich cultural festivities, and enhance their understanding of Goa, making each trip a truly enriching experience.

In Panjim the floats parade will be held on Saturday, March 30. This year the parade route has been changed from 18th June Road to Dayanand Bandodkar Road due to ongoing Smart City works.
