BICHOLIM: The famous zatra of Shirgao will be celebrated in Bicholim with great joy and religious fervour on Sunday where thousands would seek blessings of goddess Lairai.
Lairai is believed to be an incarnation of Goddess Parvati; since the devotees strongly believe that Lairai grants their prayers, thousands of them flock to the festival every year.
The Shirgao zatra is held on the fifth day of Vaishakh of Hindu calendar every year. Most zatras in the State are related with individual villages, but this zatra has connections to over 200 villages from Goa and Maharashtra.
After taking holy bath in Devachi Tali, the new Dhonds proceed towards the Mudder, the original place of Lairai, where various rituals are performed.
