PONDA: The Judicial Magistrate First Class Ponda on Thursday remanded one Rajesh Gaonkar (34), resident of Talpanwada, Shiroda for seven days police custody for allegedly murdering his father.
Ponda Police on Wednesday had arrested Rajesh for allegedly murdering his father Ganesh Ragoba Gaonkar, aged 65 years.
According to the police, there was an altercation between the son and father on a marriage proposal issue resulting to the delay of his marriage. Followingly, the arguments between them turned violent with son Rajesh hitting his father with an iron rod and broken floor tile on the head.
The injured father was immediately rushed to the Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim but later succumbed to his injuries.
According to the locals, the victim was a hardworking person and earning his livelihood by working as mason and also working in bagayats. The victim’s wife had expired four years back. The victim’s family comprises one son (the accused) and two married daughters. However, husband of one of the daughter expired four years back and since then she was taking care of her father and the accused brother.
She was shocked after her brother allegedly murdered father and filed a police complaint.
The alleged accused Rajesh, a daily wage earner, has a habit of consuming alcohol and often had a quarrel with his father.
