Shiroda resolves to scrap CZMP

PONDA: At a special gram sabha on Sunday, the Shiroda villagers unanimously adopted a resolution to scrap the “faulty Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP) for village. Over one thousand villagers attended the special meeting.
The gram sabha members also opposed a passenger or coastal jetty under this plan at Shiroda. 
A resolution was also adopted to protect and conduct survey of traditional khazan land, fishing zones, houses, pathways, bandaras so that citizens are not deprived of their rights.
The gram saba was convened on the demand of the villagers and was held in Sarvajanik Ganeshotav Mandal’s Hall at Bazaar. It was chaired by Sarpanch Amith Shirodkar.
At the meeting, the villagers expressed anger that they “were kept in the dark” about the plan and vowed that they would not allow their decades-old houses, agricultural land and fishing activities to sacrificed for CZMP. 
Answering queries from villagers, the sarpanch expressed similar opinion and assured to protect interest of the villagers. 
At the meeting, the villagers also demanded that Shiroda be declared as a village of farmers and fishermen and their areas of activities be protected at any cost. It was also decided to write to Minister Nilesh Cambral to protect the rights of Shiroda villagers.
