PONDA: In a major setback to the Congress, Shiroda Congress Block Committee President Sunil Sawkar has been seen campaigning for BJP’s candidate Subhash Shirodkar since past three days in Shiroda.
When asked for his reaction Sunil Sawkar said that Congress Block Committee has decided to support BJP Candidate Subash Shirodkar. When asked to explain why he is not supporting the Congress Candidate Mahadev Naik, Sawkar said that since the beginning the Congress Block Committee was against giving ticket to Mahadev Naik and had even had told the party’s high command that they can’t support Mahadev as a candidate. He pointed out that when Mahadev was with the ruling BJP government as a MLA, he had given step motherly treatment to the Congress party workers.
“Let the party high command come and work for his victory,” he quipped.
He also referred to a recent Congress meeting held a meeting at Sungrace Garden, Bethroa, where they had asked the MLAs how the ticket of Congress was given to Mahadev, who had only recently joined Congress when there were several other aspirants. He added that the party leaders and MLAs told them that Mahadev’s name had been finalized by the party’s high command in Delhi.
He added that the Congress workers and panch members of Borim will work for Subash’s victory. He added that Subash had won the last election, (against Mahadev) with a victory margin of 5000 votes, while this time he would win the seat with a victory margin of 8,000 to 10,000 votes. He further said that Congress would get the lowest vote share in Shiroda by poll.
