PONDA: A pall of gloom descended on the locals of Shiroda as their young ‘Covid Warrior’ medical officer Dr Akshaya Madhukar Pawaskar, 38 working at Shiroda PHC since 2011, passed away late on Tuesday evening while on duty.
Dr Akshaya was known for giving new lease of life to several patients during Covid pandemic and was known as ‘Covid Warrior’ and was very popular amongst the local people. She was also felicitated by State Government for her hard work.
Dr Akshaya was on duty on Tuesday night and even conducted medical checkup of 17 patients, following which she went to her restroom at around 9 pm.
After some new patients were admitted to the PHC at night, the nurse on duty went to call the doctor , but she failed to respond. Alarmed with lack of response from Dr Akshaya, the nurses and other doctors opened door and found her lying dead on the bed. Soon the Ponda Police were informed. Police registered a case of unnatural death. It is learnt that post mortem on body has been conducted and viscera is preserved.
Her family is from Malkarne, Sanguem. Her final rites will be done on Thursday.
