PANJIM: Coming out in support of the South Goa candidate Reginaldo Lourenco for the first time since his announcement, ex-GPCC chief Subhash Shirodkar informed that the Congress high command has taken a good decision by choosing the most deserving candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
He was speaking at a massive meeting held in the Mormugao constituency in the presence of Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, NCP leader Jose Philip D’Souza, Vasco Congress leader Sankalp Amonkar, AICC Secretary Girish Chodankar, social activist Tara Kerkar, Congress spokesperson Urfan Mulla and other elected members of the constituency.
Congress leaders from as far as Shiroda also came out in the open to support the candidature of Lourenco.
Expressing joy over the increasing amount of participation of the people in favour of their candidate, Shirodkar said this increase in popularity was because of a good choice of the candidate by the party.
Reginaldo said that he had an eventful day in the constituency and gave a patient ear to the woes of the people. He said that the fishing community is an important community of the state and he had a lot of respect for them.
During his tour to the constituency, he said many people complained about the hardships faced due to restrictions imposed by the state govt and MPT. He assured the people that all matters relating to the MPT can be solved if he gets elected to the Parliament as it becomes easier to deal with the MPT which comes under the purview of the central govt and maintained that issues with the MPT will be given top priority.
Lourenco also appealed to the sea fearers not to be divided by the BJP’s false promises.
AICC Secretary Girish Chodankar explained to the people the various schemes that will be introduced by the Congress in the event of a UPA III being formed at the Centre.
Congress spokesperson Urfan Mulla spoke about the undermining of the Muslims by the BJP and said that in tough times like this, the people should unite and not allow these divisive forces to take advantage of their precious vote by making fake promises.
NCP leader Jose Philip D’souza appealed to his supporters to support Reginaldo and explained that the NCP has agreed on an alliance, because all secular forces should unite to defeat the communal agenda of the BJP.
