Shirodkar’s exit leaves Congress flock without a shepherd in Shiroda

PONDA: Shiroda MLA Subash Shirodkar’s resignation and his subsequent joining of BJP has caused a leadership vacuum in Congress in that constituency. Though Congress has thousands of loyal supporters in Shiroda, yet the party has no block committee, currently.
The previous Block Congress Committee was headed by Amith Shirodkar, the brother of Subash, who supported his elder sibling’s reigniting and subsequent joining of BJP. This is the reason why there is no protest against Subash in his constituency, similar to the one staged against Dayanand Sopte at Mandrem constituency.
Before joining BJP, Subash Shirodkar reportedly convened a meeting of his supporters and secured their approval for his plan vis-à-vis resigning as an MLA and joining the BJP.
Meanwhile, a senior leader and Block Congress Committee member, Sunil Sawkar, said that he is a loyal Congressman since past 28 years and that he and his supporters would stay with the Congress party. Incidentally, Sawkar is a sitting panch and a former sarpanch of Borim Panchayat.
When asked for his opinion on Shirodkar’s resignation, Sawkar said that has no ill-will towards the former Congress MLA, but he would never follow Shirodkar’s footsteps and join the BJP.
