PONDA: Various programmes have been planned to commemorate Shivaji Jayanti on February 19. At a function to be held at Farmagudi, Ponda, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant will lead the people in paying tributes to the Maratha king on the occasion his birth anniversary.
This annual event will be organised by the Department of Information and Publicity in Association with Village Panchayat, Bandora and Zilla Panchayat Member, Kavlem.
The day-long programme will commence at 8.30 am with Dhol Tasha Pathak performance by Shivsanskritik Pratisthan, Usgao and Powadas’ presentation by Bal Bhavan children. This will be followed by garlanding of the Shivaji’s statue at Farmagudi fort premises at 8.45 am by the Chief Minister followed by offering of flower petals at the pedestal (portrait) of Shivaji statue.
Chief Minister will garland the burst of former Chief Minister late Dayanand Bandodkar at Farmagudi and other dignitaries will offer floral tributes. The main function will be held in the precincts of Shree Ganapati Temple premises at Farmagudi.
Dr Sagar Deshpande, Historian from Pune will deliver a keynote address on the life and times of Shivaji.
Competitions such as All Goa Inter Collegiate Quiz on Life, Times and legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and All Goa Theatrical Entry (Natya Pravesh) Competition will be held.
