PONDA: Shiv Jayanti was celebrated at Farmagudi with day long programmes, huge rallies and dramas in various parts of the taluka.
Earlier in the morning, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant paid rich tributes to the warrior king by garlanding the statue of Shivaji Maharaj at the Farmagudi Fort. Agriculture Minister Ravi Naik, Power Minister Sudin Dhavlikar, Art and Culture Minister Govind Gaude, PMC Chairperson Ritesh Naik, Information Director Deepak Bandekar, local Panch members and Sarpanchas were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister lauded Shivaji as a warrior and visionary king who established Swaraj and bravely fought against the British, the Portuguese, the Dutch and the Mughals and drove them away. His Swaraj was ideal and had soldiers from all sections of society.
The CM urged the youth to follow the ideals and thoughts of Shivaji and contribute to the betterment of the country.
Historian Sagar Deshpande delivered a talk on the life of Shivaji and his achievements. Various programmes were staged on occasion by school children. In the evening, a huge rally was held from Farmagudi to Curti and Ponda town.
