PORVORIM, JUNE 14
The Bardez unit of Shiv Sena has demanded that the Directorate of Education should make available all text books to students immediately and end the miseries of teachers and students.
The Shiv Sena has threatened to stage an agitation in the State with parents and teachers, if the Directorate of Education failed to make available the text books to students.
In a memorandum to the Director of Education on Monday, Vibhag Pramukh of Shiv Sena, Bardez, Philip D’Souza has stated that textbooks are one of the major teaching and learning resources used in the schools.
“Non-availability of text books on time hampers the academic activities of the students and schools. If students do not have access to the textbooks, it is not possible for the teachers to give homework for the students,” stated D’Souza in the memorandum.
“Besides, pressure on teachers also increases to complete the curriculum when books are not made available at the commencement of the academic year and consequently the students have to burn midnight oil to cope up with the studies,” he added.
The memorandum further stated that failure to supply textbooks to the students at the beginning of the academic year has become an annual event and misery.
“The woes pertaining to non-availability of textbooks have plagued our education sector consistently for years together. Yet the government does not appear to have taken any effective steps to solve this persistent problem,” said D’Souza.
“If the tenders were floated on time and the concerned educational authorities had taken up the matter with printers/publishers vigorously, then this problem would not have arisen. The availability of textbooks on time save teachers and students from unnecessary pressures and stress,” stated the memorandum.
