Shiv Sena to contest 20-25 seats in Goa

PANJIM: Shiv Sena MP and Goa incharge Sajay Raut on Sunday said that the party would contest 20 to 25 seats on its own strength in the next Goa Assembly elections.

Addressing a press conference at the party office, here, Raut said that the party is preparing to contest the forthcoming Goa Assembly elections on its own strength. Her said in the past Shiv Sena contested Goa Assembly polls but in alliance with regional Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) and Goa Suraksha Manch (GSM) and were allotted 3-4 seats. 

Therefore the Shiv Sena has now decided to contest 20-25 seats in Goa on its own strength. This wil also help to expand party’s base in the State, he added.

The Shiv Sena leader blamed opposition parties in Goa for not raising issues concerning the people in spite of government having failed to deliver. Stating that the Sawant government had totally failed to perform, Raut claimed that there is neither government nor opposition in the State. There is unrest against the government but the opposition parties had failed to take advantage of it, he said. 

To a question, Raut said though he was not in favour of imposing ban on casinos in the State but there should be discipline in the industry and casinos should not be identity of Goa. He alleged that loot was underway in the name of casinos and said that if Shiv Sena comes to power in Goa, it will bring discipline to the casino industry. 

To a question, Raut said both, Central and State governments should form a policy on iron ore mining as large number of people dependent on the mining industry.
