Shocked HSSC students go ‘online’ to seek lenient paper corrections

GBSHSE chairman does not accept students’s view, says it was average difficult

PANJIM: Unhappy with the ‘tough’ Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) HSSC physics question paper, many students have signed an online petition seeking leniency in corrections.
“The physics paper set by the Goa Board for 12th Science seemed to be really difficult and tricky to many students. On account of this, many students feel that they will get fewer marks and may even fail,” said the petitioner
He added, “We plead with GBSHSE to kindly correct the physics paper leniently as we know nothing else can be done. But our request to the Goa boards is to try to come up with a much better and convenient solution to this problem which can affect our percentage and careers as well.”
Students and parents had said that the paper was of an analytical type and that Goa Board students had not been trained to answer such questions. Even students who had been trained for NEET and IIT level found this paper difficult, they had claimed.
“We have all got together and made this online petition to give all students a platform to express themselves and sign the petition. We pray that the board listens to us and corrects the paper leniently,” said a parent.
A GBSHSE source said there are multiple inbuilt systems of checks and balances, hence it is unlikely that the online petition will be able to make any impact.
Speaking to Herald, GBSHSE chairman Ramkrishna Samant said, “The analysis done by the teacher’s panel at GBSHSE revealed that the paper was average difficult and that there were no out of syllabus questions.”
According to the students, Question 1 which says whether the field is uniform or non-uniform is not mentioned. Also, question number 21 was based on no reference material in the textbook, whereas in question number 21, long answer type is broken into 5 sub-questions and made into objective instead of subjective.
