MARGAO: The construction company continued its shoddy road work on Wednesday too, but this time on another stretch of the road.
On Monday the company had asphalted the road even though a portion of it was dug up for sewerage connection near Khareband.
On Tuesday, while undertaking the work of asphalting the road from under the over-bridge near Raviraj Hotel to the junction at the end of the over-bridge towards Navelim, the contractor kept two gaps of about half metre width from the centre of the road to the end.
On Wednesday, the Sewerage Corporation contractor engaged labourers to dig up these two portions to give sewerage connections to two different people. Thus the road has been asphalted except for the two gaps which would make it a bumpy ride henceforth.
Local councillor Manohar Massurkar while pointing out that the contractor had deliberately left the gap to permit the sewerage connection to be given, said that the road would be asphalted later on and admitted that it would be done as patchwork.
The company had bagged the contract to asphalt the roads from Rawanfond junction to Khareband for a whopping Rs 2.5 crore and while the sewerage corporation was asked to give all connections in advance before the road work started, it appears to have ignored the instructions completely.
Due to the negligence of the Sewerage Corporation, the crores of rupees spent by the Public Works Department on road works is going down the gutters or better still the sewerage line.
