MAPUSA: The Calangute police arrested a shop owner from a store at Baga circle, Calangute and seized 166 electronic cigarettes, electronic hookah, chargers, batteries and other accessories all worth Rs 2,50,000 on Wednesday night.
This is the first offence registered in Goa at Calangute Police Station on Wednesday after the enactment of the Prohibition of Electronic Cigarette (Production, Manufacture, Import, Export, Transport, Sale and Distribution and Advertisement) Ordinance 2019.
The Calangute police team conducted a search of Vape Store near Baga circle, Calangute and seized electronic cigarettes and hookah and other accessories.
The shop owner Shafeequal Rahman, a native of Kumta, was arrested for contravening section 4(i) and 7 of the Ordinance and subsequently released him on furnishing surety amount of Rs 10,000.
Calangute PI Nolasco Raposo assisted by lady PSI Deepa Deikar, Constables Shreyesh Shakalkar, Vinay Shrivastav, Suresh Naik and lady Police Constable Deepa Gurav conducted the raid.
