Ponda: The Ponda Municipal Council at its meeting held today decided to send final notices to the shop owners doing business in the dilapidated Shastri Hall building. This is to make way for the reconstruction of Shastri Mall in its place.
The PMC took this decision as GSUDA had approved the fund for the construction of Shastri Mall along with the approval for the renovation of PMC garden.
Notices to four shop owners will be sent as the four shop owners have not vacated the building despite several notices to vacate it. The Goa Engineering College team in a study had given a report which sttaed the building was dangerous for occupation due to the weakness of the structure. The shop owners in this building will be rehabilitated in the PMC Market Complex shops at the upper Bazar till the completion of the Shastri Mall. The library functioning from this building will be also shifted to suitable place.
Further PMC also decided to allow permission for inauguration of renovated Kranti Maidan after Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar’s request, which is scheduled to be open on June 17. Council took decision to take possession after considering all aspects.
The Chairperson Radhika Naik also directed the Chief Officer to collect the Sopo tax arrears from vendors and in case of failure to take legal action against them.
