MARGAO: Congress MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco on Friday accused the BJP government of deliberately having assembly sessions for a few days to deny an opportunity to the Opposition MLAs to raise issues of the people in the House.
Recalling that Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar used to earlier assert that the House should sit for at least 50 days in a year, he pointed out that in the current financial the House would be sitting for only 16 days as only a three day session is scheduled to discuss the budget.
“With there being nearly 71 departments, it is not possible to discuss all of them in just two days given the fact that the first day no business will be transacted as it is reserved for the Governor’s address,” he said.
Reginaldo said he wanted to raise various important issues like the jurisdiction of Mormugao Port Trust and various other matters like converting Goa into a coal hub, the mining fiasco, functioning of Goa State Co-operative Bank, Sonsodo, formalin in fish and many other issues.
“I hope my calling attention motion on ownership of Zuari River at Nauxim and Sancoale is permitted as this needs to be discussed,” he said adding that the MPT is claiming jurisdiction over these areas.
He said he could ask only 6 starred and 30 unstarred questions as the assembly is sitting for only two days and added that various other issues could not be raised and accused the BJP government of deliberately doing this so that the Opposition MLAs do not expose the government’s inefficiency.
