MARGAO: In an unprecedented development, the Margao Municipal Council has asked the Municipal Chairperson Gonzaco Rebello to show-cause why action to demolish or seal his illegal work should not be taken under provisions of the Goa Municipalities Act, 1968.
MMC Chief Officer S L Naveen, IAS has further directed the chairperson to be present in person or through a duly authorised agent on January 23 at 3.30 pm and reply to the notice. Sources in the MMC said that hearing on the matter is unlikely to take place on Friday and the hearing may take place next week.
In the show-cause notice, the chief officer pointed that the municipal inspection team has observed that the illegal structures belong Gonzaco Rebello, adding that the works were carried out without obtaining prior permission as required under the Goa Municipalities Act, 1968. ‘The illegal activity is depicted in the inspection report titled “Transgression report” and the illegal construction works are in contravention of the provisions of section 184 of the Goa Municipalities Act, 1968,” Naveen said.
