Shramik Express trains, a ray of hope for migrant labourers to reach home

Over 6,000 have left for their native places in North India since service started

MARGAO: Over 6,000 migrant labourers have left for their native places in North India since the beginning of the Shramik Express train. 

On Wednesday, Sharmik Special carrying 1,464 passengers left Madgaon Railway Station for Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh and another train carrying 1,520 passengers left for Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh.

Shramik Express of Konkan Railway departed from Margao for UP with the 1, 464 passengers of Faizabad and Gorakhpur Janpad Districts at 6.50 pm, onboard.

The second Shramik Express departed from Karmali to Chhattisgarh with the 1,188 passengers of Raigarh, Raipur and Bilaspur, at 8 pm.

Superintendent of Police South Arvind Gawas, IPS; Special Additional Collector  Sanjiv Desai; Superintendent of Police Serafin Dias; Superintendent of Police Sammy Tavares and other senior officers of District administration were present and the entire operation was monitored by District Magistrate South Goa Ajit Roy, IAS.  

Superintendent of Police North Utkrisht Prasoon, IPS; Sub-Divisional Magistrate Panjim Vivek H.P, IAS; Tiswadi Taluka Mamlatdar Franklin Ferrao, and four Joint Mamlatdars including other senior officers were present and the entire operation was monitored by the District Magistrate, North Goa R. Menaka, IAS.

Both the trains departed under the overall supervision of Kunal IAS, Nodal Officer for Inter-State Movement Cell.  

The people who boarded the trains were stranded in State due to ongoing nationwide lockdown. A proper medical screening and other formalities of the passengers were carried out before they boarded on the both trains.

Meanwhile, a bus carrying 22 people from Pune reached Goa safely, at 5 pm and they have been directed to Asilo Hospital, Mapusa for health screening. Similarly, people from Sikkim who were stranded in Goa and who travelled to Bangalore to board the train to Sikkim from Bangalore have safely reached their pickup spot at Bangalore.

One more train departed for Maharajganj, Kushinagar and Sant Kabir Nagar Districts of Uttar Pradesh from Madgaon Station.

Earlier, Shramik special train carrying 1,520 passengers departed from Madgaon Railway Station for Rewa another train carrying 1,188 passengers departed from Karmali Railway Station for Raigarh, Chhattisgarh on May 19.
