CALANGUTE: Union Minister of State for Tourism and BJP`s North Goa Lok Sabha candidate Shripad Naik on Friday assured the people that would take up the issues affecting the coastal belt if he is re-elected and the BJP forms the government.
Addressing a corner election meeting at Calangute, Naik said, “After mining, tourism is the biggest industry in Goa. The BJP government at the Centre and in the State has already carried out a lot of development to promote the tourism industry across the State. Whatever remains to be done we will take up in the coming five years.”
Calangute MLA Michael Lobo urged Naik to take up the issue of amending the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) notification to regularise commercial structures built by locals and traditional residents of the coastal belt.
“A lot of locals in the coastal belt have constructed guesthouses, restaurants, small businesses and they keep receiving demolition notices from the authorities. We have spoken about this on many occasions. This is the right time to get the CRZ notification amended to allow part commercial activities in your house,” Lobo said.
Lobo expressed his confidence that Naik after the conclusion of the Lok Sabha election will go to Delhi and get this amendment made.
Calangute ZP Member Dattaprassad Dabholkar, BJP North Goa District president Mahanand Asnodkar, general secretary Gurudas Shirodkar, senior BJP leader Govind Parvatkar, former Calangute sarpanch Shawn Martins and other were also present.
