PANJIM: A day after the tragic accident, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant and doctors on Tuesday said that the AYUSH Minister Shripad Naik is stable following four surgeries during the night.

Sawant, speaking to media persons, said, “So far four surgeries have been performed. He is stable for now; further line of treatment will be decided by the doctors.”

Naik was injured late Monday, while his wife Vijaya died after the car they were travelling in met with an accident at Hosakambi village of Ankola taluka in Karnataka’s Uttar Kannada district. Officials said that Naik’s close aide and RSS pracharak Deepak Dube has also been killed in the accident.

Following directions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh visited GMC and enquired about Naik’s condition.

He met with doctors treating the Union Minister and recommended a second opinion from doctors of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

Singh, along with Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant, met Naik in the ICU and also visited his residence at Ribandar. “I am here following instructions from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. I am told his condition is stable,” Singh said.

He said he has spoken to Dr Guleria of AIIMS and the team will come and give an opinion. “There is no need to shift him right now but if need be we will take him but all depends on the doctors here. Right now there is no need of any knee-jerk reaction but all will depend and what doctors decide,” he said.
