PANJIM: Union AYUSH Minister Shripad Naik and his wife tested positive for COVID-19, as the State reported another 480 cases on Wednesday.
“I underwent COVID-19 test today and it has turned out asymptomatically positive. My vitals are within normal limits and I have opted for home isolation,” Naik tweeted and appealed to all those who have come in contact with him in the last few days to get tested and take precautions.
Meanwhile, the State’s death tally and new cases continued to surge on Wednesday, as three more patients died while 480 tests came positive.
As per the health bulletin issued by Directorate of Health Services (DHS) all three persons who died had co-morbid conditions. The deceased include a 62-year-old man from Mangor Hill, a 74-year-old man from Purna, both admitted at the ESI hospital, Margao, and a 62-year-old woman from Baina, admitted in Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) who died on Tuesday.
Since June 22, when the State reported its first two COVID deaths, the tally has reached 89, of which over 50 per cent are from Mormugao taluka.
Further, of the 3375 samples tested for Coronavirus, 480 were declared positive while 2520 are negative. The test results of 575 people are still awaited.
Panjim continued to see a rise in cases with 21 people testing positive on Wednesday. The total active cases in the city are 148. There are also 94 patients in hospital isolation.
Three travellers have been placed under facility quarantine, while ten interstate travellers are in home quarantine.
As on date the total confirmed cases are 9924, of which active are 3194 while 6641 have recovered.
