CANACONA: At a special meeting attended by over 200 villagers, the Shristal gram sabha on Sunday passed a resolution to issue on conditional a provisional NOC for establishing an IIT project in the village.
Before passing the resolution, the meeting had a prolonged discussion over the application of the Canacona comunidade to seeking NOC for establishing an IIT campus. The NOC would now be issued only after the demands of the village are attended to.
The gram sabha was especially convened to discuss on the proposal of the Canacona comunidade over issue of NOC for the prestigious IIT project at Nuvem, Shristal in Canacona.
During the discussion, it was pointed out by the villagers that there is shortage of water, irregular power supply, narrow roads in the panchayat area and establishing such a huge project in the village would add to the woes of the villagers.
The members made it clear that the experts from the technical education should explain at the gram sabha about the IIT project, the benefits locals would derive from this project and how the requirements of water, electricity and other infrastructure would be taken care of before issuing NOC.
Sources told Herald that the panchayat had written to the department of technical education to send a team of experts and explain and answer the queries of the members during gram sabha but no one turned up as there were no clear instructions to them from the government in these regards.
Later, a resolution moved in this regard by Shirish Pai was accepted and it was resolved to give a provisional NOC to construct IIT complex, on a condition that the government gives preference to locals in jobs and take care of other infrastructural issues affecting the village.
