PANJIM: A day after the unceremonious exit of Vidya Shet Tanavade, Adv Shubhalaxmi Naik has been elected new chairperson of Goa State Commission for Women.
Minister for Women and Child Vishwajit Rane said, “The file has already been cleared and orders will be issued soon,” he said.
Asked whether this was a political appointment, he replied, much thought has been given by CM and himself before reaching the decision.
“Adv Shubhalaxmi is experienced and has been member of Women’s Commission in the past,” he said.
The term of Tanavade as Chairperson of Goa State Commission for Women came to an abrupt end following her resignation.
Tanawde tendered her resignation to the government on November 10, for reasons still not known. When Herald contacted her, she confirmed quitting as Commission’s Chairperson but refrained from citing exact reason.
“I submitted my resignation letter on November 10. I have personal reasons for leaving the post,” she told Herald when asked as to why she resigned from the post. The fate of the Board now hangs in balance as it is reportedly learnt that no members have resigned yet. The Commission comprises of a Chairperson, Member Secretary and seven members. Rane said the new board will also be appointed soon.
