Ahead of the much-anticipated India vs Pakistan ODI World Cup 2023 match, Shubman Gill, the Indian opener, made a remarkable return to the playing XI at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday.
Rohit Sharma, the Indian captain, announced Gill’s comeback, stating, “Gill is back in place of Ishan Kishan. I feel for Ishan. He has stepped up, but Gill has been a superb player for us.” Gill had been recovering from dengue, which had caused him to miss India’s initial World Cup matches against Australia and Afghanistan.
Nevertheless, Gill’s presence was evident as he participated in the practice and net sessions on the eve of the game in Ahmedabad. Captain Rohit Sharma had expressed confidence in Gill’s availability, saying he was “99% available” for the match.
In the toss, India decided to bowl first. Here are the playing XIs for both teams:
India (Playing XI): Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (w), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj
Pakistan (Playing XI): Abdullah Shafique, Imam-ul-Haq, Babar Azam (c), Mohammad Rizwan (w), Saud Shakeel, Iftikhar Ahmed, Shadab Khan, Mohammad Nawaz, Hasan Ali, Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf.
