PANJIM/ALDONA: In twenty-odd days, the distraught parents of the Nachinola teenager Siddhi Naik will be observing the first anniversary of her brutal death, which was registered as murder after huge efforts.
To them, the investigation has died a brutal death, notwithstanding CMPramod Sawant telling reporters that the case is being investigated “on merit”.
Speaking to Herald the father of Siddhi Naik, Sandeep Naik said, “CM is saying that the case is still going on. But the truth is they’re not following up on the case. If they were, the case would’ve got solved long back. He’s pressuring others not to follow up with this case. (See accompanying story on the Father’s outburst)
While speaking to reporters Herald asked a specific question on the progress of the investigations into the case, he preferred a long reply, without throwing light on the status of the investigation.
“Since the case is still under investigation, it may not be appropriate to furnish the copies of papers relevant to the ongoing investigation as the disclosure may affect the integrity of investigation and provision of law,” he said.
He also said disclosing any information could endanger the life or safety of sources of information. “Any disclosure of information which relates to personal information of the victim and which has been forbidden to be published by law may constitute contempt of court,” he added.
The father of the victim reacted sharply after hearing this, “No follow-up is going on, when we go to find out about the case, they pretend they are doing something about it. Now it’s been a year.”
