PONDA: The people were left frustrated as a road signboard installed at a prime junction was covered up with advertisement banner since past few days.
The signboard helps visitors find their way to visit Rajiv Kala Mandir and Bethora Panchayat. The other main road at this junction heads to Khandepar, Belgaum.
Locals said not only electric poles, public places are being defaced with posters of various kinds of advertisement but now even road signboards are not spared by advertisers illegally.
Viraj Sapre, a social worker from Ponda said, “One can understand if electric poles or other public places are used for advertisement but how can a road signboard covered with advertisement?” he questioned.
“Tourist visiting Ponda town would find difficult to find their ways they wish to go if sign boards are covered with posters.”
He said, “Rajiv Kala Mandir organises several programmes and those coming from distant places are confused to find the landmark as board is covered with advertisement.”
He said ,“The concrete road signboard showing the direction to Rajiv Kala Mandir and Bethora road at Upper Bazaar junction is covered up with advertisement banner since past many days and neither PWD nor PMC has taken action on it.”
“Special zones should be created for advertisement purpose so that businessman get publicity of their products but and at same time it will also give revenue to Ponda Muncipal Council,” said Viraj Sapre.
