SANGUEM: Some unknown persons broke into Vithal temple at Sanguem and decamped with silver ornaments weighing around 8 kgs approximately valued at Rs 4.90 lakh.
CCTV footage of the temple premises show two persons entering the temple at around 1:30 am and searching for valuables.
They then entered the sacred sanctorum where Lord Vithal’s idol is placed and stole the silver ornaments draped on the idol.
Dattaprasad Sanguekar living near the temple tried to nab the thieves as he came out of the house hearing some noise, but could not succeed due to the prevailing darkness.
He then informed the temple committee members who in turn contacted Sanguem police who are now investigating the matter.
